Error codeFE, E04, E12
ApplianceWasher
Quick answer
FE (also E04 and E12 on front-load washers and WashTower) signals water overfilling. Top-load washers show FE for an overfilled tub.
Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so FE, E04, E12 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Water overfill: extra water entered the drum or tub.
FE is the water overfill code on LG washers. Front-load washers and WashTower units may show it as FE, E04 or E12; top-load washers show FE when the tub is overfilled.
Front-load washers and WashTower
During normal operation the drain pump is activated to prevent leaks, so extra water may have entered the drum, possibly through the detergent dispenser. Check whether extra water is being supplied through the dispenser. Unplug the appliance, wait 60 seconds and restart it. Then start a Quick 30 program; if it does not begin with a drain action, stop the program and turn the appliance off.
The WashTower guide adds that too much detergent, or the wrong type, can cause excess suds that upset the water level sensor. It recommends high-efficiency detergent in the recommended amounts, and cleaning the drain filter. Caution: a lot of water can flow out when the filter is opened, so have a pan and a dry cloth ready.
Top-load washers
Unplug the power cord, reconnect it and run the washer again. If the tub keeps filling toward overflowing, the water level sensor may have a problem. Turn off the water supply if the tub keeps filling.
