LG Refrigerator LF Error Code

An LG kimchi refrigerator that shows LF, sometimes written Er LF or E LF, is reporting a fan problem. Ice or frost has built up and the internal cooling fan can no longer turn. The affected fan is on the left side of the upper compartment.

What usually sets it off

The manual says these fan errors most often appear when a compartment door is not fully closed. Outside air gets in and frost forms around the fan motor.

Thawing the fan

1. Move all food to another refrigerator or an insulated cooler so it does not spoil.
2. Lay dry towels on the floor around the unit to catch meltwater.
3. Unplug the refrigerator and open every door fully. Leave it at least 24 hours. Thawing takes about one day in summer or up to three days in winter, depending on how much ice there is.
4. When the ice has melted, wipe moisture off the interior and the floor with a dry towel.
5. Confirm nothing damp is left, plug the unit back in, and check whether LF has cleared.

Skip the hair dryer. Hot air can deform plastic parts and creates a fire risk. Meltwater may also run into other compartments, because cold air passages link some of them.

• IF points to the ice maker fan instead.
