Error codeFF (Er FF, E FF)
ApplianceRefrigerator
Quick answer
FF on an LG refrigerator is a freezer fan fault, often from frost. LG gives defrost steps for standard and kimchi refrigerators.
Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so FF (Er FF, E FF) may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Freezer fan fault, blocked fan or no fan signal; frost on the fan is a common cause.
FF on an LG refrigerator points at the fan that moves cold air around the freezer. It can display as Er FF or E FF. A blocked fan makes the compressor work harder, and the internal temperature can rise. LG lists it for refrigerators and for kimchi refrigerators.
Standard refrigerators
LG says frost buildup can cause it. Analog panels show LEDs at 7°C, 3°C, 2°C and 1°C. The manual defrost goes like this:
Move food to a backup refrigerator or cooler if you have one, and remove ice from the ice bin.
Unplug the unit.
Leave both doors completely open for at least 8 hours.
Keep towels in and around the unit for the meltwater, then wipe the inside dry.
Plug it back in. Cooling can take 24 to 48 hours to return to normal.
Afterwards, make sure the vents are not blocked, the refrigerator is level and the doors close fully. Frost along the freezer walls means leveling and door alignment need checking. No frost on the walls means the unit needs repair service.
Kimchi refrigerators
For kimchi models, the code appears when ice or frost keeps the internal cooling fan from turning. LG’s route is to unplug, open all the doors, wait at least 24 hours, dry the interior and plug back in.

Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
