Error Code

LG Top Load Washer E3 Error Code

Error code E3
Appliance Washer
Quick answer

E3 on a top-load LG washer is a drain motor error that may be caused by freezing. Unplug, reconnect, and thaw if frozen.

Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so E3 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

Drain motor error that may be caused by freezing.

E3 appears on an LG top-load washer when something is wrong with the operation of the drain motor. Water frozen inside the washer in cold weather can also trigger it.

First step: reset

Unplug the power cord, reconnect it and try to run the washer again. If E3 repeats, the drain motor may need inspection.

Thawing a frozen washer

Open the door, remove all laundry and scoop out any water left in the tub. Pour warm water (50 to 60ºC) into the tub, close the door and wait 1 to 2 hours; it can take longer depending on the surroundings. Wrap a cloth wet with warm water around the drain hose. A frozen drain hose may also bring up OE, a drainage code. Then turn the washer on and run a Spin cycle to remove leftover water. If water will not drain, ice has not fully melted, so wait a little longer. Finish by powering on and running a Rinse (once) + Spin cycle to confirm the washer works normally.
