Error Code

LG Washer LE (AE) Error Code

Error code LE, AE
Appliance Washer
Quick answer

LE (AE on top-load models) means the tub fails to rotate because of an overload or a foreign object.

Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so LE, AE may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

The tub or drum fails to rotate, due to overload or a foreign object.

An LE code means the tub failed to spin. The motor cannot run properly, either because the washer is overloaded or because something is stuck in the tub. Top-load washers can also show AE, which the manual lists as a rotation error. Front-load washers, WashTower units and top-load washers are covered.

Front-load and WashTower washers

  1. Unplug the power cord, wait 5 minutes and run the cycle again. A temporary fault may clear.
  2. Lighten the load. A strained motor will not turn the drum, and bulky items such as blankets belong on the bedding or Blanket/Duvet cycle.
  3. Switch off the power, unload the washer and look for a coin or other object. Remove it with tweezers or pliers.

On a WashTower the manual adds that running the washer continuously without breaks can also stop the motor. If the code persists, or the drum will not turn and makes noise, unplug the machine and request service.

Top-load washers (LE and AE)

AE appears when the gears that turn the drum cannot work properly, and LE appears when the motor is stuck. A coin or object caught between the wash plate and the drum can cause either one. Use tweezers to take the object out. If nothing is trapped but the drum still struggles and makes noise, request service.
