Error codeUF
ApplianceRefrigerator
Quick answer
UF (Er UF or E UF) means ice or frost is blocking the fan in the middle or lower compartment of a kimchi refrigerator.
Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so UF may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
UF is a fan problem in which ice or frost blocks the internal cooling fan in the middle or lower compartment.
Kimchi refrigerators from LG display UF, or Er UF and E UF, when the cooling fan in the middle or lower compartment is held up by ice or frost. The fan cannot turn until the ice is gone.
Why it happens
According to the manual, a door that is not fully closed is the most common reason. Outside air enters the compartment and frost builds around the fan motor.
Manual thaw procedure
Take the food out and store it in another refrigerator or a cooler. Put dry towels around the base. Unplug the unit, open all doors fully and leave them open for at least 24 hours, which may mean about a day in summer or up to three days in winter. Then dry the inside and the floor, make sure no moisture remains, plug in, and see if UF has cleared.
Do not melt the ice with a hair dryer, as the heat can deform plastic and starts a fire risk. Meltwater can reach other compartments through the cold air passages.
rF: the fan at the right of the upper compartment.
tt: a water tank fault, a different kind of problem.
